In de middag een extra AB met als enig agendapunt het mandaat aan het DB tot herstructurering van de leningenportefeuille van het waterschap. Het gevolg: een forse besparing op de rentekosten in de komende jaren.
18 januari
In de morgen een bestuurlijk overleg met wethouder Gerard Bruijniks van de gemeente Loon op Zand over het waterschapsproject ‘inhaalslag Keur en oneigenlijk grondgebruik’.
Aan het eind van de middag een bestuurlijk overleg over de het project Westelijke Langstraat met gedeputeerde van den Hout, wethouder mevr. Keijzers-Verschelling van Waalwijk en de heer de Wit, het hoofd van Staatbosbeheer in Noord-Brabant. Hernieuwde afspraken zijn gemaakt om de realisatie van het ruim 600 hectare groot natuurgebied weer actief op te pakken. Hierbij komt de focus te liggen op het realiseren van het gebied per peilvak.
19 januari
In de morgen DB vergadering met een presentatie en discussie over duurzaam financieel beleid. En besluiten over o.a. het projectplan EVZ Dorpswaterloop te Alphen, de intentieovereenkomst Deltaplatform, een uitvoeringskrediet voor het baggeren van het Mark-Vlietsysteem, een aantal stukken over de nieuwe haven van Waalwijk en een mededeling over de resultaten van de heroriëntatie archiefbeheer. De heroriëntatie was één van de kernpunten van mijn vorige bestuursperiode (gestart in februari 2012) wat door Jan Slenders verder is afgemaakt en geresulteerd heeft in een forse besparing van 1.48 miljoen euro over de periode 2013 -2022.
In de middag een fors aantal afspraken met beleidsambtenaren over o.a. de wateropgave Loon op Zand, de Westelijke Langstraat, cultuurhistorie en de dijkverbetering Geertruidenberg/Amertak (GEA). Ook een gesprek met collega heemraad Arie Bassa over de aanpak van werkeenheid 4, waarin ik ook de drie gemeenten in het werkgebied van het waterschap Rivierenland (Werkendam, Woudrichem en Wijk en Aalburg) onder mijn hoede heb. Ik mag, net als in de vorige periode, in dat werkgebied ook namens waterschap Rivierenland blijven optreden. Hierbij is mijn jarenlange ervaring als AB lid van het voormalige waterschap Alm & Biesbosch heel behulpzaam. Ik ken daardoor het gebied en de bestuurders goed.

Al om negen uur een overleg op het stadskantoor van Tilburg met o.a. wethouder Mario Jacobs van Tilburg, wethouder Guus van der Put van Goirle en Guïljo van Nuland van Brabant Water over het beheer van een bosgebied.
De middag doorgebracht bij een expertsessie ‘Water in de tuin’ waarbij ook uit de regio deskundigen en hoveniers aanwezig waren in het Natuurpodium Brabantse Wal. Op de bijeenkomst kon ik mijn kennis en ideeën, hoe het beter zou kunnen, goed kwijt. Ook de gemeentelijke deskundigen lieten zien dat het waterbewustzijn bij ambtenaren een keer ten goede aan het maken is. Ook mijn frustraties over het feit dat het al meer dan 40 jaar verwaarlozen van dit thema een relevant aandeel heeft in het ontstaan van de soms optredende wateroverlast, de toename van de hittestress in stedelijk gebied en de verschralende biodiversiteit en achteruitgang van vogel en vleermuis aantallen vond weerklank. Hopelijk wordt de ingebrachte kennis van een ieder en zeker ook van de hoveniers gebruikt om tot een ander beleid bij gemeenten en huisvesters te komen.

In de avond de fractievergadering van Ons Water/Waterbreed. Hierbij konden, buiten het doorspreken van de AB agenda, ook de aandacht vragende thema’s voor toekomst ruim aanbod komen.
