Vandaag een letter of commitment getekend, waarin ik namens het waterschap Brabantse Delta verklaar dat wij samen met de andere partners gaan samenwerken aan een Vitaal Leisure Landschap in de regio Hart van Brabant. Het plan 2017-2020 en het werkplan 2017-2020 van het Vitaal Leisure Landschap bevatten voor het waterschap tal van onderwerpen, die een bijdrage leveren aan de kerntaken van het waterschap, zoals het realiseren van EVZ’s, beekherstel, waterberging en het robuuster maken van het watersysteem. Ook onderwerpen zoals het zorgen voor een klimaat bestendig water- en natuursysteem, uitgewerkt in de projecten: natuurnetwerk hart van Brabant, omgaan met klimaatverandering en de Zuiderwaterlinie, kunnen een stevige bijdrage leveren aan onze waterdoelen.
Bestuurlijk overleg over de plannen met de A58. Voorbij kwamen: de aansluiting Best, het knooppunt Annabosch, het knooppunt de Baars, de inpassing Oirschot, de beekpassages en de Anneville eik.

Onder weg naar De waterzuivering Nieuwveer ben ik gaan kijken bij de De Kuil in Prinsenbeek, waar een vrij zeldzame algensoort voor een paarse verkleuring van het water zorgt. Dit verschijnsel staat bekend als ‘Bourgondisch Bloed’. De voorkomende algensoort, Planktothrix rubescens genaamd, veroorzaakt een paarse tot rode kleur van het water. Het verschijnsel ‘Bourgondisch Bloed’ dankt die naam aan de slag bij Murten (Zwitserland) in 1476. Daar werd het leger van Karel de Stoute, de hertog van Bourgondië, door de Zwitsers verslagen. De vele gesneuvelde soldaten werden in het meer van Murten gegooid en hun bloed kleurde destijds het water rood. De algensoort in De Kuil groeit in de diepere waterlagen en is nu ook aan de oppervlakte zichtbaar nadat de verschillende waterlagen van de zwemplas zich hebben vermengd door de najaarsafkoeling en de wind. 
In tegenstelling tot veel andere algen groeit deze soort goed in relatief schoon en helder water. Zo leren we iedere dag. In dit geval dat ook in de winter en in schoon water algen een probleem kunnen opleveren voor mens en dier. Helaas voor mij, maar goed voor de natuur, was de verkleuring al minder zichtbaar. In de morgen een presentatie over het waterschap gegeven aan de bezoekende Probusgroep Het Markiezaat uit Bergen op Zoom. Het was leuk stad/streekgenoten uitleg te mogen geven over het waterschap. Daarna was de eindejaarsbijeenkomst van het waterschap en heb ik met veel medewerkers gesproken.
