In november 2014 in de 7e aflevering van deze reeks werd er reeds geschreven over de sluipende verzilting van het Volkerak-Zoommeer en de oorzaak.
In maart 2015 in de 24e aflevering van deze reeks werd verhaald over de antwoorden van de minister op vragen van de VVD-fractie: “Zolang het Volkerak-Zoommeer zoet is zal Rijkswaterstaat de afspraken nakomen die zijn opgenomen in het Waterakkoord Volkerak-Zoommeer (2001) over het chloridegehalte in het meer. Om dit te kunnen doen is groot onderhoud aan het zoet-zout scheidingssysteem in het Krammersluizencomplex nodig. Dit is enige jaren uitgesteld in afwachting van een besluit over een zoet of zout Volkerak-Zoommeer. Hierdoor is er sprake van een grotere lek van zout door deze sluizen.”
Nu hebben we in de Nieuwe Oogst kunnen lezen dat in het nieuwe waterakkoord staat dat Rijkswaterstaat meer en constanter gaat doorspoelen tijdens het groeiseizoen. Door hier op tijd mee te beginnen wil men dat het water in het Volkerak-Zoommeer aan het begin van het nieuwe seizoen, in maart 2016, in orde is. In de laatste maand voor het groeiseizoen wordt aangestuurd op een verlaging van de chloridenorm van 450 milligram per liter naar maximaal 380 milligram. Helder is dat lekkende kleppen in de zoet-zoutscheiding in de sluizen de boosdoeners zijn van het toenemende zoutgehalte van het water in het meer. Nu gaat Rijkswaterstaat onderzoeken of het aanleggen van een innovatieve zoet-zoutscheiding met bellenschermen mogelijk een oplossing is. Weer wordt een echte aanpak uitgesteld. Er wordt gespoeld zo is de toezegging. Maar als er onvoldoende zoet Rijn/Maaswater is in het groeiseizoen verliest de Keizer (de boeren) vast hun recht.
Er is maar één echte oplossing en dat is herstel van de zoet/zout scheiding door het achterstallig onderhoud aan de Krammersluizen nu eindelijk eens uit te voeren. Een halfslachtig waterakkoord is niet meer dan een doekje voor het bloeden. Nu moet eindelijk de wond echt eens gehecht worden. Dan pas ontstaat er weer vertrouwen bij de agrariërs dat het kan gaan werken en de afspraken na gekomen worden.
Mij bekruipt het gevoel dat, kijkend naar de onzinnigheid van het voorstel om het Volkerak-Zoommeer te verzilten tegen 2028, we enkel en alleen praten en praten om Rijkswaterstaat in staat te stellen onderhoud en uitgaven uit te stellen en gemaakte afspraken aan hun laars te lappen. Er moet gebeuren wat in “Het Advies Deltaplan Zoetwater” staat. In dat stuk is op pagina 39 te lezen: “Voordat een zout Volkerak-Zoommeer is gerealiseerd, is waarschijnlijk ook nog een zoet-zoutscheiding in de Krammersluizen nodig. Niet meer praten maar doen.
