Op de website van het Hoogheemraadschap van Delftland kwam ik een initiatief tegen dat navolging verdient. Op de Delflandsedijk bij Maassluis verrijst binnenkort een paradijs voor bijen. Daar ontstaat de eerste Honey Waterway van Nederland. Met de Honey Waterway verbindt het Hoogheemraadschap de waternatuur met de natuur op het land. Een bloemrijke dijk ziet er niet alleen fraai uit, de nectar en stuifmeel van de streekeigen bloemen leveren voor een lange periode veel voedsel aan de bijen, hommels en vlinders. De initiatiefnemers hopen zo iets te doen aan de massale bijensterfte in Nederland. Hier vindt u meer informatie.
Op de website van Gemeenten voor Duurzame Ontwikkeling zijn tal van ideeën te vinden over hoe gemeenten duurzamer kunnen worden. Eén van die ideeën is via kinderboerderijen de bezoekers te informeren hoe zij zelf een bijdrage kunnen leveren bij het meer klimaatbestendig en waterbewust maken van hun gemeente. Daartoe is ook een handreiking: “Alle kinderboerderijen klimaatbestendig en waterbewust” gemaakt.
Met regelmaat komen er klachten binnen over grondwateroverlast. Sinds 2008 is het wettelijk geregeld dat de gemeente de zorgplicht (taak) heeft ‘voor het in het openbaar gemeentelijke gebied treffen van maatregelen om structurele nadelige gevolgen van de grondwaterstand voor de aan de grond gegeven bestemming zoveel mogelijk te voorkomen of te beperken’. Op grond van deze zorgplicht dienen gemeenten zich zoveel mogelijk in te spannen om structurele problemen als gevolg van een voor de gebruiksfunctie nadelige grondwaterstand in openbaar bebouwd gebied te voorkomen of te beperken. Recent heb ik een presentatie over de baten van actief grondwaterbeheer bijgewoond. De baten van actief grondwaterbeheer kunnen zijn:
- minder schade door maaiveldzetting
- minder schade aan funderingen
- minder schade aan groen
- minder schade door grondwateroverlast
- grotere robuustheid tegen klimaatverandering
- lagere kosten weg- en rioolbeheer
- minder hittestress.
Tijd dus om het grondwaterbeheer actief op te pakken.
