In de morgen een overleg over het dijkverbeteringproject Geertruidenberg/Amertak.
In de middag een vergadering van de stuurgroep A27, waarbij ik naast wethouder van Groos van Waalwijk zat. Ik ben bezig herbestemmingen te vinden voor de delen van de oude Moerdijkbrug (die voor onze provincie van z’n grote betekenis is geweest en een geschiedenis heeft die schreeuwt om behoud), die nu dienst doen als de Keizersveerbrug over de Bergsche Maas. Aan wethouder van Groos deed ik de suggestie om eens te kijken of één deel niet iets zou zijn als vervanger van de veel te krappe Veerwegbrug over het Oude Maasje. Hij vond het iets om na te vragen in zijn organisatie. De Veerwegbrug is voor het moderne (landbouw) verkeer weliswaar veel te smal, maar is vermoedelijk wel een Marshallhulp brug en daarmee heeft zij ook een te koesteren geschiedenis. De eerste zaadjes tot behoud van delen van de oude Moerdijkbrug zijn geplant.

UCHIMIZU
Met de simpele oude Japanse techniek van water sprenkelen, uchimizu, is extreme hitte in een stedelijke, bebouwde omgeving te verminderen. Dat is de conclusie van een onderzoek door Anna Solcerova van de TU Delft. Het effect is het grootst op momenten dat het nog niet zo warm is.
Het is al lang bekend dat het in een stedelijke omgeving warmer is dan op het platteland. Dit wordt het ‘Urban Heat Island’ genoemd. Stenen absorberen en houden meer zonnestraling gevangen dan bodem en vegetatie. Daardoor warmt de stad op. Daarnaast veroorzaken menselijke activiteiten warmte. Het Urban Heat Island-effect is al zo’n 200 jaar bekend. Maar al veel langer bestaan er methodes om hitte in stedelijke gebieden te temperen. ‘Uchimizu is zo’n techniek, die in Japan al sinds de 17e eeuw wordt toegepast’. Huizen, tempels en tuinen en hun omgeving worden besprenkeld om het oppervlak en de lucht te koelen en om stof te laten neerdalen. In Tokyo wordt deze methode weer gebruikt. De lokale autoriteiten promoten uchimizu als een ‘slimme manier om koel te blijven’. De metingen werden uitgevoerd in Delft. De conclusie is dat uchimizu altijd werkt; de grond wordt sowieso koeler. Het effect is het grootst op momenten dat het nog niet zo warm is. En in de schaduw is het effect groter dan in de zon.
