OVER WATER – 89
De afgelopen weken heb ik gelezen: “De dijk is van ons allemaal“, geschreven door Frank Bolder en uitgegeven door waterschap Rivierenland. Een boekwerk met herinneringen, verhalen, emoties, ideeën, bewustwording, draagvlak en participatie aanpak/resultaten van dijkverbetering in het prachtige Rivierenland. Ook voor mensen buiten het Riverengebied het lezen waard.
Een tweede boek dat ik gelezen heb is: “Tranen op het land”, geschreven door Erik Driessen en uitgegeven door het waterschap Zuiderzeeland. Een boek over Zeeuwen en Brabanders in de Noordoostpolder. Een boek vol emoties en ervaringsmomenten waarvan de huidige generaties kunnen leren.
In het tijdschrift Riolering van april 2017 een artikel met de titel “Rivierenland gaat buiten de lijntjes kleuren”. Het Algemeen Bestuur van het waterschap Rivieren land heeft geld vrijgemaakt voor een nieuwe manier van werken. Waterschap Rivierenland wil voortaan verder kijken dan haar kerntaken. Tot nu toe hield het waterschap zich alleen bezig met de primaire waterschapstaken, maar dat gaat nu veranderen. Samen met gemeenten en organisaties in de regio wil het waterschap zoeken naar oplossingen bij de door klimaatverandering ontstane problematiek, waarbij sociale vraagstukken en waterproblemen in één project worden aangepakt. Feitelijk doet mijn eigen waterschap Brabantse Delta dat ook al. Alleen is daarvoor niet gelabeld geld vrijgemaakt.
Soms kom je een website tegen waarvan ik denk: die moet iedereen in overheidsland (gemeenten, waterschappen, provincies en de rijksoverheid) kennen, omdat de website tal van voorbeelden geeft hoe klimaatadaptatie en hittestress aan te pakken. https://www.destraad.nl/ is er zo één. Gaan kijken dus!

De werksessie “geneesmiddelen en microverontreinigingen” in Utrecht met o.a. lezingen van Aline Meier van VSA Zürich en Thomas Rolfs van Wasserverband Eifel – Rur uit Düren. Het verhaal van Aline Meier was indrukwekkend en liet zien dat in Zwitserland tal van proeven zijn genomen en lopen met een grote variëteit aan reinigingsmethoden. Zwitserland heeft ook een belasting ingevoerd van 9 sfr per inwoner om de zuiveringen uit te breiden met een extra stap om microverontreinigingen, zoals geneesmiddelen aan te pakken. Naar Nederland vertaald zou dit een gemiddelde stijging van het zuiveringstarief betekenen van circa 20 %. Het verhaal van Thomas Rolfs was een beschrijving van een project in realisatie van een nazuivering gericht op microverontreinigingen op één van de zuiveringen van het wasserverband. Zijn motto sprak mij wel aan: “leren, fouten maken, beter worden”. In Nederland schuiven we de aanpak voor ons uit omdat nog niet duidelijk is welke techniek in de toekomst de beste zal blijken. Elders heeft men besloten dat de aanpak geen uitstel meer verdraagt en gaat men aan de slag met een grote variëteit aan methoden. Wel allemaal gebaseerd op twee hoofdlijnen (oxidatie en/of absorptie door actieve kool). De ontwikkeling van resistente bacteriën is voor één van de redenen om snel aan de slag te gaan met de aanpak van microverontreinigingen en geneesmiddel restanten. Ik schreef er eerder in 2015 over en in Over Water – 68 ( 1 december).
