Betreft: De weerbaarheid van de bossen in ons werkgebied, kenmerk 18004
Geacht Dagelijks bestuur,
Er is bijna zes miljoen euro van de provincie en de Europese Unie beschikbaar voor het herstel van de Brabantse bossen. Maar niet voor ons (West-Brabant). Alleen op landgoed De Luchtenburg, nabij Ulvenhout, worden 6.000 van de één miljoen nieuwe bomen in Noord-Brabant geplant. De rest gaat naar Oost- en Midden-Brabant. Er zijn wel plannen voor de Brabantse Wal (162.000) bomen, maar deze grond is nog te ‘goed’.
De te planten loofbomen zijn bodemverbeteraars. De linde, de hazelaar, haagbeuken en fladderiepen gaan geplant worden. Juist de fladderiep zou een mooie aanvulling zijn voor ons gebied. Omdat de iepenspintkevers deze iepsoort nauwelijks aantasten, ontsnapt de boom aan deze ziekte. De bladeren van loofbomen composteren veel beter dan dennennaalden, waardoor de bodem veel beter in staat is om water, voedingsstoffen en mineralen vast te houden. Ook op bijvoorbeeld de Brabantse Wal is dat nodig om de waterhuishouding van het gebied te verbeteren en om veel verloren gegane en verdroogde natuur te laten herstellen. De droogte van deze zomer laat bij uitstek zien dat het de hoogste tijd is om ook de bossen in West-Brabant meer weerbaar te maken. Nu is het nodig dat de (zand)gemeenten in West-Brabant, samen met ons waterschap, de provincie laten weten dat we niet aan de achterste mem willen hangen, maar dat de besteding van de 6 miljoen euro en verloving van naaldbossen, zoals op de Brabantse Wal, meer gespreid over de provincie dienen plaats te vinden.
Bijvoorbeeld De Brabantse Wal lijdt onder de verdroging, onder andere door de waterwinning en de samenstelling van de bossen. Dat zou mee moeten wegen in de prioriteitsstelling. Nu is er geld en dat hoeft in een alsmaar veranderende politiek/bestuurlijke wereld niet zo te blijven. Dus geacht DB let op uw zaak en ga in Den Bosch eens goed aan de kast rammelen.
- Is het DB bereid om het provinciaal bestuur te wijzen op de noodzaak/wenselijkheid ook de bossen in West-Brabant te verloven en meer weerbaar te maken?
