Mijn naam is John van Gorp, geboren in 1965. Sinds 1996 getrouwd en vader van twee kinderen. Al sinds mijn geboorte ben ik woonachtig in Tilburg en sinds 1997 in de Tilburgse wijk Reeshof.
Dit kun je eigenlijk geen wijk meer noemen, gezien de 43.000 inwoners van dit stadsdeel, maar toch. Onze wijk wordt aan de noordzijde begrenst door het Wilhelminakanaal, welke in begin van 1900 gegraven is Oosterhout met Tilburg verbindt. Deze waterweg gaf Tilburg de kans om over water bereikbaar te worden en hiermee minder afhankelijk te zijn van Waalwijk. Om de hoogtes te overbruggen is het Wilhelminakanaal voorzien van een aantal sluizen, waaronder ook een unieke industrieel sluis ter hoogte van het begin van onze wijk. Deze sluis is ondertussen buitengebruik en via een nieuwe sluis is de doorvoer naar de rest van het kanaal veilig gesteld. Toch bereikte mij in 2010 alarmerende signalen, toen gesteld werd dat een sluis moest gaan vervallen. De sluis die moest gaan vervallen staat aan de andere zijde van de Reeshof en zorgt voor een overbrugging van 2,5 meter waterniveau tussen beide sluizen. Doel was om deze sluis te laten vervallen! Resultaat zou dan zijn dat over de gehele lengte van de Reeshof (ongeveer 8 km) het waterniveau 2,5 m zou dalen. Dit zou een beoogd effect hebben van grondwaterstanddaling die voor 50-60% van de Reeshof merkbaar zou zijn. Het beeld dat huizen zouden verzakken (bijna alle huizen zijn namelijk in de Reeshof op ‘staal gebouwd’) bezorgde de hele wijk onrustige momenten.
Samen met een groep bezorgde bewoners hebben we dit, in combinatie met gemeenteraad Tilburg en provinciaal bestuur van Brabant, met voldoende belang kunnen aankaarten bij de minister, waarmee zij dit onzalige plan heeft kunnen stoppen in 2018.
Met bovenstaande in het achterhoofd en de wetenschap dat door de recente verdroging van 2018 de problematiek van dalende grondwaterspiegel een groter probleem vormt dan menigeen zou durven vermoeden, moeten we NU handelen. We moeten in actie komen om onze grondwaterstanden te stabiliseren en waar mogelijk te verbeteren. Dit is voor mij de reden om mezelf in te zetten voor de enige waterpartij met kennis van zaken, ‘Ons Water’. Stem op 15 maart 2023 op ‘Ons Water’ lijst 2, nummer 25.
