Cees was niet alleen in hart en nieren raadslid, Cees was in mijn herinnering ook een waterschapsman met hart voor water en met een goed oog voor het belang voor water in zijn omgeving. Ik heb Cees mee mogen maken als lid van het Algemeen Bestuur van het Waterschap Brabantse Delta (2004-2008). Ik kende in hem een loyale medestrijder voor de waterbelangen van de boeren, burgers en buitenlui. Cees bracht in zijn waterschapwerk mede de kennis in die hij op deed als raadslid maar ook de kennis die hij opgedaan had in zijn functioneren als waterschapbestuurder bij het voormalige waterschap Land van Nassau waar hij naar mij kennis circa tien jaar lid was van het Algemeen Bestuur.
Cees was een loyale collega die vanaf 2008 op de kieslijst stond van Ons Water. Bij de laatste verkiezing (2018) had Cees als lijstduwer nog eens helder geformuleerd wat hij belangrijk vond. Dat deel van zijn nalatenschap is te lezen op LINK
Hij sprak toen de volgende wens uit: “In het verleden heb ik vijftien jaar deze belangen mede mogen behartigen en ik spreek de vurige wens uit dat onze partij ook in de toekomst actief mag meebesturen in het waterschap Brabantse Delta.”
Namens Ons Water en mij zelve, bedank ik Cees voor zijn vriendschap, zijn collegialiteit, loyaliteit, zijn wijze lessen en zijn inzet voor het waterschapwerk. Cees, Vaar Wel.
