(NATTE/ZOUTE) DROOM OF NACHTMERRIE: TUSSENSTAND PETITIE – 1
De landsregering heeft de “ontwerp-rijksstructuurvisie Grevelingen en Volkerak-Zoommeer” vastgesteld en daarmee het voornemen kenbaar gemaakt een beperkt getij terug te brengen in het Volkerak-Zoommeer en deze wateren op termijn te verzilten.
Op 14 oktober zijn wij de petitie “STOP DE VERZILTING VAN HET VOLKERAK-ZOOMMEER” gestart. Op 1 januari 2015 hadden 931 mensen deze ondertekend. Van de ondertekenaars hadden 20 % dat gedaan zonder hun naam en adres kenbaar te maken. Van de wel bekende ondertekenaars kwam
13 % uit het buitenland, voornamelijk België en Duitsland
42 % kwam uit het werkgebied van het waterschap Brabantse Delta
9 % uit Zeeland
22 % uit Zuid-Holland
14 % uit de rest van Nederland.
Wat qua woonplaatsen van de ondertekenaars opviel was dat 8,5 % uit Bergen op Zoom en ruim 4 % uit de Heen kwam. Het lijkt erop dat nogal wat recreanten, natuurliefhebbers en agrarische ondernemers de petitie tekenden. Zij zien klaarblijkelijk als geen ander de nadelen van verzilting.
Verder werden er in 2014 bij de petitie 95 opmerkingen gemaakt die vrijwel allemaal de wens tot zoet blijven van het Volkerak-Zoommeer onderschreven c.q. motiveerden. Wij zullen de komende weken een aantal van deze opmerkingen via de facebook pagina van Ons Water onder uw aandacht brengen. De eerste was gedateerd 15 oktober 2014:
“Als voormalig waterbouwer, betrokken bij de aanleg van de secundaire deltawerken, heb ik met grote verbazing kennisgenomen van de beslissing van dit kabinet. Met heel veel miljoenen guldens (euro’s) belastinggeld van de inwoners is een veilig en prachtig Volkerak-Zoommeer ontstaan dat nu plotsklaps weer teniet wordt gedaan. Hierbij moet bedacht worden dat het 30 jaar geduurd heeft om tot dit moois te komen. Verzilting vraagt wederom een tijdsspanne van 30 jaar of meer om eenzelfde?? natuur terug te krijgen. Verzilting heeft alleen zin als het volledige getij terugkeert want anders verkrijgen de omwonenden een stinkende en rottende waterplas ervoor terug. De omliggende gemeenten dienen hiervan goed bewust te zijn omdat dit ook ten koste gaat van het alom gepropageerde (water)toerisme in deze regio.”
