Het Rammegors voorlopig weer zonder getij
Het terugbrengen van een zout getij vanuit de Oosterschelde in het natuurgebied Rammegors bij Sint Philipsland is voorlopig gestopt. Rijkswaterstaat heeft de doorlaat die in de Krabbenkreekdam was gecreëerd gesloten. Dit is uit voorzorg gedaan omdat de bodem van de Oosterschelde voor de dam veel sneller blijkt te eroderen dan gedacht. Zolang niet duidelijk is wat daar de gevolgen van zijn, wordt er geen zout water doorgelaten.
Vanaf 5 december 2014 liet de sluis in de Krabbenkreekdam weer zout water uit de Oosterschelde in het natuurgebied Het Rammegors lopen. Op 19 december is de sluis weer afgesloten vanwege de snelle erosie aan de bodem. De fundering waar de sluis op staat kan hierdoor worden aangetast. Het is nog onduidelijk hoeveel tijd het onderzoek vraagt en hoe lang de doorlaat gesloten blijft.
Rijkswaterstaat wilde weer zout water in het Rammegors toelaten, zodat er weer slikken en schorren ontstaan. De huidige afsluiting heeft nog geen grote gevolgen voor de flora en fauna in het Rammegors, omdat er na twee weken getijdenstroming nog slechts beperkte verzilting heeft plaatsgevonden. Van het weer zout maken van natuurgebied Rammegors bij Sint Philipsland komt voorlopig dus niets terecht. Zolang nog wordt onderzocht wat de gevolgen van de erosie aan de bodem kan zijn, wordt geen zout water doorgelaten.
Was de erosie te verwachten? Ik denk het wel. Een erosie-effect kan ook op gaan treden in geval het getij, zoals nu is voorgesteld, terug wordt gebracht in het Volkerak-Zoommeer.
In haar zienswijze heeft de Stichting Sirene nadrukkelijk gewezen op het risico dat, bij het terugbrengen van het getij in het Volkerak-Zoommeer, de zandhonger (erosie) in de Oosterschelde versterkt zal gaan worden waardoor slikken en schorren in omvang zullen afnemen. Feitelijk is de optredende erosie bij de doorlaat naar het Rammegors in het klein wat straks bij in het noordelijke deel van de Oosterschelde kan gaan gebeuren. Hopelijk leert Rijkswaterstaat hier iets van met betrekking tot de risico’s verbonden aan de plannen voor het Volkerak Zoommeer.
