In de middag een PHO (portefeuillehouderoverleg) ter voor bereiding van het bestuurlijk overleg met de gemeente Oosterhout.
15 september
De morgen was geheel gevuld met de vergadering van het DB (dagelijks bestuur) waarin de voorbereiding van de diverse vergaderingen op Unie niveau een belangrijk onderdeel waren. Maar ook onderwerpen als: het projectplan Keenehaven 2 (een ecologische verbindingszone, EVZ), de legger oppervlaktewaterlichamen in de gemeente Halderberge, diverse uitvoeringskredieten en het projectplan zomerkade langs het Hollands Diep tussen Willemstad en Noordschans.
In de avond een vergadering met de werkgroep cultuur van het Algemeen Bestuur van het waterschap. Langzaam maar zeker ontwikkelen we voorstellen tot systeem/procedurewijzigingen voor het bestuur.

In de avond de vergadering van het AB (algemeen bestuur) met helaas geen onderwerpen uit mijn portefeuille op de agenda.
17 september
De hele middag Hart van Brabant overleg met onder andere het ROV (regionaal overleg Hart van Brabant Ruimtelijke ordening en Volkshuisvesting & Economische Zaken, Recreatie en Toerisme). Mijn inbreng in dit soort overleg is vooral de rol om water in de ruimtelijke ordening bij de aanwezige wethouders in beeld te brengen en te kijken hoe gemeentelijke taken te combineren zijn met die van het waterschap.
18 september
Weer eens naar Amersfoort naar de Commissie Waterkeringen van de Unie van Waterschappen met onderwerpen als o.a.: de toetsing primaire waterkeringen (dijken), het positionpaper MIRT (het Meerjarenprogramma Infrastructuur Ruimte en Transport), de nieuwe normeringen waterveiligheid en de prioriteringslijst programma 2017-2022. Dat laatste is voor ieder waterschap belangrijk omdat iedereen zijn dijkverbeteringsprogramma voor de jaren tot 2050 zo hoog mogelijk op de lijst wil hebben. Des te eerder zijn er de centen voor dat programma en des te eerder is de veiligheid in hun werkgebied zo optimaal mogelijk. Voor ons waterschap gaat het om de dijkverbeteringsprojecten: Geertruidenberg/Amertak, de Noordschans en een damwand Buitenpand Wilhelminakanaal (nabij Oosterhout).

Twee PHO’s ter voorbereiding van de bestuurlijke overleggen met de gemeenten Loon op Zand en Geertruidenberg. Met op de agenda wat er op watergebied allemaal speelt bij deze gemeenten.
23 september
In de morgen ben ik naar de nationale groendag bijeenkomst geweest. Ik kan er lopend naar toe. Het was in de Maagd en Bergen op Zoom. Een interessante spreker: Shyam Khandekar, afkomstig uit India maar al 40 jaar werkend en wonend en Nederland. De architect Khandekar liet met tal van voorbeelden zien hoe stedenbouw op tal van plaatsen in de wereld vorm wordt gegeven met als belangrijke elementen de combinatie met groen, water en landschapsarchitectuur. Voor de gelegenheid was ik in het groen gegaan. Maar groen bleek zeker geen mode kleur! Wat mij opviel was de totale afwezigheid van waterschappers. De voornaamste spreker noemde als voorbeelden, waar Nederland nog ambities lijkt te hebben als het gaat over kwaliteit, programma’s zoals Ruimte voor de Rivier (hij noemde de Overdiepse Polder en de ontwikkelingen in de rivier bij Nijmegen) en het nieuwe Hoogwater Beschermingsprogramma. Ook opvallend was dat op de uitgebreide lijst van sponsors de Unie van Waterschappen ontbrak. Het was puur een gemeentelijk feestje, omlijst met vele ingenieurs/architectenbureaus en adviesorganisaties. Ik was duidelijk een vreemde eend in de bijt! Ik was toch blij er geweest te zijn. Zo leer je toch iedere dag weer.
In de middag de stuurgroep vergadering Overdiepse Polder. Bij afwezigheid van de gedeputeerde mocht ik de symbolische voorzittershamer hanteren. Het was leuk te zien dat in mijn afwezigheid er weinig veranderd was. De veelal afrondende besluiten werden in een goede sfeer afgehandeld. In de eerste helft van volgend jaar komen we in deze samenstelling nog éénmaal bij elkaar om het hele proces van dit prachtige project te evalueren en te kijken wat we bij de komende projecten anders en beter kunnen doen.
