(NATTE/ZOUTE) DROOM OF NACHTMERRIE – 33: DE STAND VAN ZAKEN
Het Volkerak/Zoommeer haalt met regelmaat de media en blijft in de aandacht. Zo nu en dan zal via een bericht op deze website de stand van zaken in onze strijd tegen de verzilting belicht worden.
Op 22 september stond er in het AD een berichtje met de kop: “minder blauwalg door exotische mossel”. In het artikeltje wordt gesteld ‘dat de waterkwaliteit in het Volkerak-Zoommeer is verbeterd om dat de quaggamossel zorgt voor helderder water doordat hij graag plankton, bacteriën en afvaldeeltjes eet’.
Ook is op 25 september in de Steenbergse Courant een artikel verschenen met de kop: “Stads- en Dorpsraden willen weten hoe politiek erover denkt ‘Verzilting van Volkerak en Zoommeer heeft louter nadelige gevolgen voor Steenbergen'”. Hopelijk is het artikel voor de Steenbergse politiek reden de zaak nog eens goed te bespreken en te kijken wat zij kunnen doen om de landelijke politiek de zaak te laten heroverwegen.
Op 22 september heeft de Tweede Kamer een motie aangenomen die hen zelf op enig moment aan het denken moet zetten en er toe kan leiden het voornemen het Volkerak/Zoommeer te verzilten opnieuw te agenderen. De Tweede Kamer heeft besloten dat de kwaliteit van drinkwaterbronnen niet door verzilting achteruit mag gaan. De motie moet er voor zorgen dat verzilting van innamepunten voor drinkwaterproductie niet boven de norm mag komen. Het Tweede Kamerlid Geurts (CDA) wilde duidelijkheid voor de drinkwaterbedrijven met betrekking tot verzilting. De drinkwatervoorziening is in de deltabeslissing Zoetwater benoemd als cruciale functie die beschermd moet worden. De klimaatverandering en ingrepen in het watersysteem hebben effecten op de verzilting van de innamepunten voor de drinkwatervoorziening. Drinkwaterbedrijven moeten voor de juiste investeringsbeslissingen duidelijkheid hebben over de zoutconcentratie bij de innamepunten op de lange termijn. De aangenomen motie vraagt het kabinet dan ook om de voorspelde verzilting boven de wettelijke norm van 150 mg per liter bij innamepunten voor de drinkwatervoorziening aan de Lek, de Noord, de Nieuwe Maas, het Amsterdam-Rijnkanaal en het Lekkanaal te voorkomen. De motie van de Tweede Kamerleden Jacobi (PvdA) en Hachchi (D66) om richting te geven aan het Deltaplan Zoetwater en Waterkwaliteit is aangehouden.
Hoewel de motie niet direct betrekking heeft op het Volkerak/Zoommeer laat het in algemene zin wel zien dat de aandacht voor de verziltingsproblematiek toeneemt.
Voor Ons Water en de BSD is het helder: de onnodige verspilling van geld en de vernietiging van de mooie natuur kan nog voorkomen worden. Stop de verzilting. Teken de petitie via https://www.petities24.com
