De vastenavonddagen zijn voor mij dagen om te lezen waar ik normaal niet aan toekom. Ik heb in één keer “Assetmanagement in Waterstad, handreiking assetmanagement stedelijk water” uitgelezen. Voor de gemiddelde mens niet echt een boek om in één keer tot je te nemen. Toch is deze Stowa/Rioned uitgave (2016/28), voor gemeentelijke (riool)asset beheerders het lezen meer dan waard. Hiermee kan geld bespaard worden en de te leveren dienst kwalitatief verbeterd. Het is een taai onderwerp en een taai geschreven boek, maar soms is werk gewoon taai en soms ligt daar ook de uitdaging. Voor meer informatie kijk op www.riool.net/HASW

In de avond ben ik naar het symposium “aandachtspunten voor het waterbeleid” geweest georganiseerd door de Stichting De Levende Delta. Ik kom altijd graag in het kantoor van waterschap de Scheldestromen, omdat ik in het verleden daar ook als lid van het algemeen bestuur van het voormalige waterschap Zeeuwse Eilanden heb mogen vergaderen. Sprekers waren Ir. Frank Spaargaren (“waar moet Zeeland zich op voorbereiden bij een zeespiegelstijging van 1 meter in 2100”), Ing. Frans Koch (“Stormvloedkering in de Westerschelde voor 2050”) en Ir Wil Lases (“Het gevaar van de onbegrepen verzilting in Zeeland”). Frank Spaargaren maakte het publiek duidelijk dat vóór het einde van deze eeuw de stormvloedkering in de Nieuwe Waterweg, de Haringvlietsluis en de Oosterscheldekering afgeschreven zullen zijn en niet meer die bescherming zullen bieden die dan nodig is. Hij pleitte om niet in gedeelten van de delta te denken bij de noodzakelijke oplossingen, maar integraal naar oplossingen te zoeken voor het gehele deltagebied. Frans Koch presenteerde een plan tot afsluiting van de Westerschelde inclusief een innovatief overslagstation voor containers (NGICT). Wil Lases ging in op de verzilting van de Delta (op de website van Ons Water publiceerde hij daar eerder over). Hij pleitte onder andere voor verzoeting van het Grevelingenmeer.
Nu mijn portefeuille tijdelijk is uitgebreid met onder andere de boezemkades en regionale waterkeringen in het oostelijke deel van het werkgebied van waterschap Brabantse Delta, heb ik gelezen “Visie op de regionale waterkeringen 2016. Verder bouwen op een goed fundament”, uitgegeven door de STOWA. Een leerzaam geschrift.

In de middag een bijeenkomst bij een boomkweker in Wernhout over de toepassing van Bokashi als bodemverbeteraar. Bokashi is een van oorsprong Japanse methode om organisch restmateriaal gefermenteerd terug te geven aan de bodem en op die wijze het humus- en organische stofgehalte in de bodem te verhogen. Hierdoor worden vocht en mineralen beter vastgehouden in de bodem en wordt ook het bodemleven meer divers.
