De klimaatcrisis en de energiecrisis dwingen ons op een andere manier naar energie en energieopwekking te kijken. Er zijn in Parijs afspraken gemaakt en vastgelegd in het klimaatakkoord. De energietransitie is onderweg. Daarbij zijn zon en wind belangrijke routes naar een ander energielandschap. Ook ons landschap veranderd daarmee en dat is wennen. In ons waterrijke landje waar grond een schaars goed is bied het wateroppervlak kansen.
China gaat ons voor met grote zonneprojecten op het water. En natuurlijk, we zijn Nederlanders, zitten aan zonneparken op water tal van haken en ogen. Anderzijds zullen we linksom of rechtsom ons aan de afspraken die we hebben gemaakt moeten houden. Dat is ook in ons eigenbelang want de klimaatverandering en de gevolgen, extremer weer en de zeespiegelstijging, raken ons ook.
Binnen het waterschap Rivierenland zijn recent proeven geweest met zonneparken/projecten op oppervlaktewater (de foto is beschikbaar gesteld door het waterschap Rivierenland). Er ligt in dat waterschap ook een voor Europese begrippen supergroot zonnepark. 17 hectare op een voormalige zandwinplas in de gemeente Druten. Dat is een zonnepark op relatief diep water. Voor ons mogelijk een voorbeeld.
De proeven in Rivierenland laten zien dat zonneparken op ondiep water, op het water en op de biologie daarin, gevolgen heeft. De ecologie, en daarmee de biotoop, verandert. Vermindering van zuurstof in het water en daardoor minder plantengroei en minder kans op bloei van algen.
Wat zijn de kansen voor Bergen op Zoom? We staan als gemeente voor een grote opgave de doelen van de Regionale Energiestrategie met de duurzame energie-ambities tot 2030 te realiseren. Dat is voor onze gemeente, met veel bossen een haast onmogelijke opgave! Tenzij we bereid zijn anders te kijken. We zijn ook een waterrijke gemeente. Het is op zijn minst een reden om te kijken wat op het water zou kunnen.
Waar valt dan aan te denken:
-
Misschien aan het noordelijke deel van de Binnenschelde (5 tot 10 hectare van een plas van 185 hectare),
-
De Broecke Haven (de voormalige werkhaven van Rijkswaterstaat die nu niet meer gebruikt wordt.
-
Een deel van het Zoommeer (het oostelijke deel tussen de Noordlandseweg en de westelijke dijk van het bedrijventerrein Noordland). Nu een gebied met hoge blauwalg risico’s.
Het mooie van deze locaties is dat de genoemde mogelijke waterlocaties bij elkaar liggen en gecombineerd zouden kunnen worden met locaties op de dijken/oevers die deze wateren omarmen. Tijd voor een andere blik en het besef dat onze energiewereld kan en moet veranderen. Wij zijn allemaal aan zet. En dat kan met respect voor de natuurwaarden in het gebied. Misschien kunnen de (nieuwe) biotopen zelfs een verrijking blijken.
