Steeds meer natuurorganisaties gaan ook voor zoet!
De landsregering heeft de “ontwerp-rijksstructuurvisie Grevelingen en Volkerak-Zoommeer” vastgesteld en daarmee het voornemen kenbaar gemaakt een beperkt getij terug te brengen in het Volkerak-Zoommeer en deze wateren op termijn te verzilten.
Nu meer zienswijzen inzake de “ontwerp-rijksstructuurvisie Grevelingen en Volkerak-Zoommeer” bekend worden, blijken steeds meer natuurorganisaties ook voor behoud van de huidige zoete situatie te zijn. Voorbeelden zijn de Stichting Sirene, Natuur en Landschap Goeree Overflakkee (NLGO) en Natuur- en Vogelwacht Schouwen-Duiveland (NVSD)
De hoofdconclusies in de zienswijze van Stichting Sirene zijn:
1. Het is geen goed besluit. De voordelen wegen niet op tegen de nadelen
2. Het besluit is onzorgvuldig voorbereid
3. Het besluit is niet uitvoerbaar.
Sirene concludeert dat dit besluit voor de natuur meer nadelen heeft dan voordelen en (deels los daarvan) in de juridische zin niet uitvoerbaar is.
Uit de gecombineerde zienswijze van Natuur en Landschap Goeree Overflakkee (NLGO) en Natuur- en Vogelwacht Schouwen-Duiveland (NVSD) zijn de navolgende citaten afkomstig: “We zijn tot de conclusie gekomen dat de RGV eerder een politiek spoor dan een ecologisch spoor beloopt, terwijl het uitgangspunt toch was het verbeteren van zowel de ecologische kwaliteit als de waterkwaliteit van beide gebieden. Dat eerste blijkt niet te gebeuren en het tweede is in ieder geval in het KVZM geen verbetering maar een systeemverandering met alle risico’s van dien. Daarbij is nauwelijks ruimte geboden aan de veranderde inzichten door de ontwikkelingen in de laatste 5 jaren. De ecologische onderbouwing van de MER en natuur effecten studie (NES) zijn naar onze mening onvoldoende en gezien de huidige snelle veranderingen in het KVZM ook sterk gedateerd. Het sterk verminderen van soorten waarvan internationaal waardevolle aantallen in het KVZM voorkomen wordt naar onze mening weggemoffeld en weggeschreven. Wij betreuren de lichtvaardige onderbouwing en gebrekkige inhoud van de MER en de NES. Dit doet geen recht aan de huidige ecologische waarden in beide systemen.”
“Zoet Volkerak-Krammer-Zoommeer behouden, om huidige positieve ontwikkelingen kans te geven.”
Waren 10 jaar geleden de natuurorganisaties nog eensgezind voor verzilting van het Volkerak-Zoommeer, onder hen zijn er nu steeds meer die vinden dat je niet om de enorme verbetering van de waterkwaliteit heen kunt. Ook zij zijn gaan inzien dat het belangrijk is de huidige zoete natuurwaarden te behouden en een verdere verbetering van de waarden af te wachten en een kans te geven.

En hoe gaat het dan met die nog niet zo heel lang geleden aangelegde inlaten die zoet water in de polders brengen wanneer het nodig is?
Hebben bij elkaar toch weer vele miljoenen gekost en zullen na verzilting volkomen onbruikbaar zijn, dus ook weer weggesmeten belastingcenten.

Je heb volkomen gelijk. Het gevolg voor de inlaten is kapitaalvernietiging en omdat op die investeringen nog steeds wordt afgeschreven blijven de boeren in hun heffing per hectare daar voor betalen. Tot op heden is het Rijk nog niet bereid dit adequaat te vergoeden. Eens te meer een reden om je als waterschap hier tegen te verzetten. Tot nu toe is onze fractie de enige dit dat ook feitelijk doen.
