MicroCat-BioPOP
“De gemeente Zoetermeer pakt vetproblemen in riool biologisch aan” was de kop van een artikel in Vakblad Riolering. Ruim 3 jaar gebruikt de gemeente Zoetermeer een biologische manier om vetproblemen in de gemeentelijke riolen en gemalen aan te pakken. Vetten veroorzaken nogal wat problemen en kosten aan rioolsystemen. Hun aanpak behelst een systeem (MicroCat-BioPOP), dat een onschadelijk biologische afbreekbaar polymeer en vetafbrekende bacteriën bevat. Een blok wordt in het rioolwater gehangen en laat dan langzaam maar continue bacteriën los die zich hechten aan de wanden van het riool of gemaal en dan de vetlagen afbreken. Zij hebben geen nadelig effect op de rioolwaterzuivering, zo is gebleken, en voorkomen op deze wijze verstoppingen. In veel Engelse en Duitse steden worden deze vetafbrekende bacteriesystemen met succes ingezet. Ook in meerdere Nederlandse steden wordt nu gebruik gemaakt van dit systeem waaronder Alkmaar, Arnhem Delft en Den Haag. Het lijkt mij goed als nu ook de gemeenten in het werkgebied van de Brabantse Delta gaan kijken of dit voor hen de oplossing kan zijn voor hun vetproblemen.

In de middag portefeuillehouder overleggen over de Westelijke Langstraat en de alternatieven van de dijkversterking Geertruidenberg/Amertak. Daarna een gesprek met de begeleider van de heisessie van volgende week.

De opening van de EVZ om Dongen fase 3 en Paviljoen Roosen te Dongen, waar ik en wethouder Bea van Beers een praatje hielden en er een filmimpressie, gemaakt door Zimniak filmproducties Dongen, werd vertoond. Daarna werd onder begeleiding van een natuurgids een wandeling door het gebied gemaakt.

Vandaag De PAL lezing in het provinciehuis van Zuid-Holland over het landschap als vestigingsfactor bijgewoond. Adriaan Geuze hield een prachtig en inspirerend verhaal voor de meer dan 250 bezoekers. Hij is een spreker die van zijn hart geen moordkuil maakt en stevige uitspraken niet schuwt. Zo vond hij de provinciekaart in de statenzaal “pure propaganda”. De werkelijke bebouwingsgraad is een veelvoud. Was de grachtgordel in Amsterdam een teken van “mentale vernauwing”? Hoorden de kassen van het Westland (51 % van de kassen in Nederland staat in Zuid- Holland) op de Zeeuwse eilanden of in de veenkoloniën en in Brabant”? En was de tuinbouw in de kassen de oorzaak van de gemiddeld lage inkomens in de grote steden in de Randstad en van de verpauperde vele Vogelaarwijken daar met alle sociale en illegale gevolgen van dien? Hij hekelde herhaaldelijk het gebruik van Engelse termen in beleidsstukken van overheden. Mensen als zijn vader begrepen dat soort termen niet en konden zich er dan ook geen eigenaar van voelen.
Ik bezoek de PAL lezingen vaak en als buitenstaander (van buiten de provincie Zuid-Holland) neem ik niet vaak deel aan de discussie. Dit keer moest ik wel reageren. Als het om de kwaliteit van het landschap gaat, zitten Zeeland en Noord-Brabant niet te wachten op meer kassen en er moest mij ook van het hart dat ik de nu nog mooie grotendeels open Hoekse Waard zie verschimmelen door her en der opduikende plukjes kassen.
Na de lezing heb ik de afscheidsbijeenkomst voor Kees Coppens bijgewoond op Bouvigne en werd getrakteeerd op een ontmoeting met een zwanenfamilie.
