Als broccoliteler en aspergeteler zie ik dat water een steeds belangrijker issue aan het worden is. Jaarlijks hebben we in de bedrijfsvoering te maken met schade door extreme wateroverlast en/of droogte. Deze problematiek vraagt om een hernieuwde visie op de inrichting van het watersysteem.
Sinds de verkiezingen in 2022 ben ik gemeenteraadslid voor de progressieve partij Morgen! in de gemeente Geertruidenberg. Water staat daar in toenemende mate hoger op de agenda omwille van klimaatadaptatie. Wat mij betreft nog niet hoog genoeg. Ik zie veel overlap en synergievoordelen met het waterschap vanuit beide posities.
Bij het waterschap Brabantse Delta wil ik mij naast de bovengenoemde waterkwantiteit en veiligheid problematiek specifiek inzetten voor het aanpakken van medicijn residu in oppervlaktewater, het aanpakken van blauwalg en de waterkwaliteit in het algemeen. Voor het op peil houden van de biodiversiteit is water van levensbelang. Dit geldt evenzeer voor ons als mens.
Karakterisering:
Ik ben sinds 1995 gildebroeder bij het schuttersgilde Sint Bavo in Raamsdonk. Ik heb daar 17 jaar in diverse functies in de Overheid (bestuur) gezeten. Als deken, deken-schrijver, deken rentmeester en hoofdman. Momenteel ben ik nog penningmeester in het kringbestuur van de overkoepelende kring Baronie en Markiezaat. Sinds 2013 ben ik lid van Rotaryclub Geertruidenberg waar ik ook verschillende bestuursfuncties heb bekleed waaronder secretaris, voorzitter en penningmeester. Voor beide verenigingen gelden de kernbegrippen broederschap en dienstbaarheid (bij Rotary fellowship en service genaamd). Het is vanuit die dienstbaarheid gedachte dat ik mij wil inzetten voor de maatschappij. Dit heb ik in de praktijk gebracht door een veelheid aan bestuursfuncties en vrijwilligerswerk voor onder andere KPJ, BAJK, ZLTO, Toeristisch platform en comité dodenherdenking. Ik zoek altijd naar verbinding want we moeten het toch samen doen.
