Motivatie om me te kandidaat te stellen voor ONS WATER
Water is voor mij het meest bijzondere natuurelement. Zonder water kunnen we niet leven. We drinken het en koken er eten in. Zonder water zijn er ook geen dieren en planten, hebben we geen groenten en fruit. Mensen bestaan voor 60% uit water. Kortom: water is leven. Maar te veel water is levensbedreigend. We kunnen erin verdrinken. Stromend water kan verwoestend zijn. Water kan elektriciteit geleiden. Via water kunnen dodelijke bacteriën zich verspreiden.
Het waterschap houdt zich met veel van deze wateraspecten bezig: waterveiligheid (bescherming door dijken), waterkwantiteit (niet te veel maar ook niet te weinig) en waterkwaliteit (schoon water in sloten, rivieren, meren en beken; zuiveren van rioolwater; vervuilende stoffen uit het water houden). Veiligheid is wat mij betreft het belangrijkste aspect. Toch is het geen doen om ervoor te zorgen dat de kans op een overstroming 0% is. Dat is te duur – de waterschapslasten moeten door alle burgers worden opgebracht – en gaat vaak ten koste van de natuur. Ons Water is een partij die de juiste balans zoekt tussen bescherming, natuur en lasten. Daarvoor zet ik mij graag voor in.
